Applying precision feeding techniques in growing-finishing pig operations R. Bras. Zootec.
Pomar,Cândido; Hauschild,Luciano; Zhang,Guo-Hua; Pomar,Jesus; Lovatto,Paolo Alberto.
The high cost of feed ingredients, the use of non-renewable sources of phosphate and the dramatic increase in the environmental load resulting from the excessive land application of manure are major challenges for the livestock industry. Precision feeding is proposed as an essential approach to improve the utilization of dietary nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients and thus reduce feeding costs and nutrient excretion. Precision feeding requires accurate knowledge of the nutritional value of feedstuffs and animal nutrient requirements, the formulation of diets in accordance with environmental constraints, and the gradual adjustment of the dietary nutrient supply to match the requirements of the animals. After the nutritional potential of feed...

Applying precision feeding to improve the nitrogen efficiency of swine production: a review of possible practices and obstacles Ciência Rural
Monteiro,Alessandra Nardina Trícia Rigo; Bertol,Teresinha Marisa; Kessler,Alexandre de Mello.
ABSTRACT: Optimizing nutrient efficiency is essential in order to increase sustainability of pig production systems, especially where the growing demand for food must be met at an affordable cost, without compromising environmental resources. To make this happen, it is necessary to develop efficient methods to accurately estimate the nutritional requirements of animals, as well as develop equipment and systems that allow for applying such expertise in the production system. Estimating the nutritional requirement of pigs through mathematical models, considering several factors that can impact the requirement, is a key factor to reduce the environmental load from pig production. Likewise, feed formulation and feeding programs, can help to achieve this. In...

Diet formulation techniques and lysine requirements of 1- to 22-day-old broilers Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Siqueira,JC; Sakomura,NK; Dourado,LRB; Ezequiel,JMB; Barbosa,NAA; Fernandes,JBK.
Two experiments were carried out to compare two techniques (amino acid supplementation and dilution) for formulating experimental diets for pre-starter (1 to 8 days) and starter (8 to 22 days) broiler chicks and to estimate digestible lysine requirements using the dose-response method. In each experiment, 1,200 male Cobb 500 chickens were randomly distributed according to a 5x2 factorial arrangement (lysine level x formulation technique) with six replicates of 20 birds each. For the supplemented diet, a basal diet was formulated to meet the nutritional requirements, then L-lysine HCl was added to achieve digestible lysine levels of 0.975, 1.082, 1.189, 1.296 and 1.403% in the pre-starter diets and 0.840, 0.932, 1.024, 1.116 and 1.208% in the starter diets....

Nutrient reduction in rations with phytase for growing pigs R. Bras. Zootec.
Rodrigues,Valéria Vânia; Cantarelli,Vinícius de Souza; Amaral,Nikolas de Oliveira; Zangeronimo,Márcio Gilberto; Brito,Jeronimo Ávito Gonçalves de; Fialho,Elias Tadeu.
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance, the energy and nutrient balance and economic viability of production of growing pigs fed diets with reduced levels and phytase. In experiment 1, 60 barrows and gilts (initial weight 25 ± 1.72 kg) were housed in a randomized block design with three diets, ten replicates and two animals per experimental unit (one male and one female). One of the diets was formulated with a reduced level with phytase and evaluated in comparison to a positive-control diet that was formulated according to the nutritional recommendations for animals of this breed, and a negative-control diet without phytase. The different diets did not affect feed intake, but the diet with phytase promoted better final weight, daily...

Simulation of diets for dairy goats and growing doelings using nonlinear optimization procedures R. Bras. Zootec.
Glória,Leonardo Siqueira; Abreu,Matheus Lima Corrêa; Rocha,Norberto Silva; Oliveira,Tadeu Silva de; Gomes,Raphael dos Santos; Rohem Júnior,Nardele Moreno; Bendia,Laila Cecília Ramos; Fernandes,Alberto Magno.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to simulate total dry matter intake and cost of diets optimized by nonlinear programming to meet the nutritional requirements of dairy does and growing doelings. The mathematical model was programmed in a Microsoft Excel(r) spreadsheet. Increasing values of body mass and average daily weight gain for growing doelings and increasing body mass values and milk yield for dairy does were used as inputs for optimizations. Three objective functions were considered: minimization of the dietary cost, dry matter intake maximization, and maximization of the efficiency of use of the ingested crude protein. To solve the proposed problems we used the Excel(r) Solver(r) algorithm. The Excel(r) Solver(r) was able to balance diets...
